The contributions are widely different in their emphases and methodologies, but they share a focus on exploring consumption rather than production of culture; questions about artistic or authorial intentionality and technique give way to questions about utility, and meaning--and to inquiry into the history of aesthetic artifacts as a history of their diverse receptions.
