概要 The Archaic Period is the longest and one of the most transitional of the cultural periods in North America. Its exact date varied across the continent, but it is distinguished from the earlier Paleo-...ndian cultures by new styles of projectile points and other artifacts, and from the later prehistoric cultures by the lack of pottery. The close of the period saw the technological innovations, social organizations, and trade networks that underlay the blossoming of tribal, chiefdom, and state societies. Seven papers from a symposium at the 1991 meeting of the Geological Society of American in San Diego discuss geological and landscape features, conditions, and constraints of the period.
