| 概要 | As a field of research, housing draws on many disciplines including political science, sociology, economics, geography, anthropology and psychology. Housing practitioners likewise have diverse origin...: such as planning, architecture, law, social work, the policy sciences and public administration, among others. As a result, much of the research in housing has been scattered rather than cumulative. This benchmark volume brings together the most important research from more than a dozen disciplines in the field. Its contributors work in widely different settings: a range of academic departments, a variety of public agencies at national and local levels, as well as the social housing and commercial sectors. This broad spectrum results from a deliberate decision to cast a wide net in order to capture the diversity and scope of housing research. More than 500 entries provide a balance of material from the technical (e.g., variable rate mortgages) to the thematic (e.g., affordability, gentrification) to the broad (e.g., historic preservation). Written in accessible language, the treatment of subjects goes well beyond merely providing a definition of topics. It offers brief descriptions, elaboration of selected aspects, and critical assessment. All entries are accompanied by carefully selected bibliographies, and clusters of interrelated topics are identified using a straightforward system of cross-references. The book also includes a comprehensive name and subject index. While much of the work focuses on the USA, there are also essays on housing in Western Europe and Japan, and on the World Bank and the World Health Organization.
