概要 | Focuses on Donne's life and works between his marriage at age 30 and his ordination at age 45, though his later sermons are treated briefly. His writings are examined not so much in aesthetic terms, b...t as products of his particular life in its time. By using Donne's poetry as a critical touchstone, Baumlin argues that there are four major theories of historical rhetoric that foster four distinct theories of reading: incarnational, transcendental, skeptical, and sophistic. He analyzes Donne's early prose, his songs and sonnets, and shows how Donne stretched the classical models of rhetoric. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR続きを見る |
