概要	An archaeological study of the growth of Manhattan during the colonial period. Featuring some 70 illustrated maps, the book describes the emergence of Manhattan as the center of class structured comme...cial capitalism in the 18th century. Rothschild (curator of New York archaeology, Strong Museum of Anthropology, Columbia U.) employs a method of analysis based on this sequence of historic maps that reveal spatial components of the city. The maps show the locations of key institutions, such as churches, markets and taverns, and the history of settlement of New York City in the 1700s.
