| 概要 | A previous edition of this work is cited in Books for College Libraries, 3rd ed.; and Walford's, quoting Choice, November 1994, listed the third edition (1994) as "an indispensable reference." Nelson...(biological sciences, U. of Alberta, Canada) presents a modern introductory systematic treatment of all major fish groups, both fossil and living. For the newest edition, the author again uses a cladistically-based classification now revised to reflect recent research, and has given references to recent systematic works, listed more genera under the families, given recent systematic information, and added new fish drawings. The taxonomy of fishes includes the anatomical characteristics, distribution, common and scientific names, and phylogenetic relationships for all 515 families of living fishes.
