Following the format of the series, this volume presents entries on 27 notable American playwrights written by scholars of their works, with lengthy summaries of the plays and films and their reception. Each entry includes a selected list of the dramatist's published works and a detailed bibliography of primary and secondary sources and interviews. Among the featured playrights are Adrienne Kennedy, Clifford Odets, Suzan-Lori Parks, Robert Patrick, Sung J. Rno, and Mae West. Many b&w images are included of playbills and portraits of the playwrights and screenwriters. The volume concludes with a cumulative index not to the volume, but to the entire series. This volume is an excellent resource for students and the interested reader, providing a wealth of information on individual writers and the American theatre scene.
