| 概要 | A state-of-the-art medical text providing new and up-to-date information about fungal diseases. The second edition has more changes than the second editions of many other medical texts. There are thre... reasons for the amount of new information. First, AIDS has changed almost everything, including the occurrence of many fungal diseases, their clinical features, and strategies for both initial treatment and long-term suppression. Second, due to important laboratory work and the unfolding clinical experience of the AIDS epidemic, a clear understanding of the difference between what were formerly termed "pathogenic" and "opportunistic" fungi has emerged (in a real sense all fungal infections are opportunists and the true distinction is between the phagocyte opportunists and the T-cell opportunists). Third, the new oral agents fluconazole and itraconazole are finding their place for treatment of AIDS and non-AIDS patients with various mycoses.
