The contributors state that neither urban specialists nor the general public have ful...y recognized the effect of immigration on the American city; in this volume, they examine the impact of such immigration. Part One gives basic historical and demographic analyses and providing a context for the study of contemporary racial and ethnic relations in US cities. Part Two examines specific institutional responses to current problems, and includes discussions focusing on native-born US minority groups of non-European ancestry.
