Topics in the book include herbicides in agriculture, control of insects and acrids in agriculture, and control of fungal disease in agriculture. Lyga and Theodoridis (both working in agricultural products) compile 18 essays on the synthesis and chemistry of agrochemicals drawn from the symposia "Translation of Pesticidal Activity from Lab to Greenhouse to Field" and "Good Ideas That Never Made It to Products" held at Fall 2004 and 2005 American Chemical Society meetings in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. In contrast to previous volumes, the scope was broadened to include all agricultural scientists (instead of only chemists) and their efforts to discover new agrochemicals. Coverage treats innovations and challenges, physical properties, assessment of metabolic stability, and stages in the development of an agrochemical product, including difficulties faced at each stage, and herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides. Synthesis, biological activity, structure-activity relationships, mode of action, and experimental design are also addressed.
