Abstract |
The sectional structures of current in the western channel of the Tsushima/Korea Strait were repeatedly survered every 3 hours by a fish-mounted type ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) in Septem...ber 1989. The results of the 4-time surveys obtained successively were averaged to take out the Tsushima Current from the raw ADCP data including tidal currents. The resulting residual current had a core of the NE current in the upper layer above the Tsushima Trough and countercurrents in the near-bottom layer. The volume transport is estimated as 1.78 Sv (1 Sv = 1×106 m3/s) for the upper NE current (corresponding to the Tsushima Current) and 0.08 Sv for the lower countercurrent. It is also concluded that the cold water with temperature less than 10℃existing in the countercurrent is originated from the Japan Sea Proper Water.show more
