Abstract The purpose of this research was firstly to analyze the interviews of 5 gastric cancer patients with operations from a viewpoint of four psychological tasks advocated by H.E.Peplau, and secondly to ex...amine the process of patient education from the results of these analyses. The four psychological tasks used in this study were 1)developing skills in participation, 2)learning to count on others, 3)learning to delay satisfaction, 4)identifying oneself. In this study, all patients were oriented to solute their own tasks reflecting their life events. These tasks were also important as the learning tasks based on their experience. Among the four tasks, 1)developing skills in participation and 2)learning to count on others, seemed to be important for the patients who had to live with their diseases after their discharge from hospitals. Furthermore, there was the changing process in the knowledge of the patients through the interviews. This changing process was the process of the experiential learning and could produce the empowerment such as the alteration of consciousness, confirmation of value, and acquisition of strategy.show more
