概要 Most of the polysemy acquisition studies have discussed the“ prototypicality” of polysemous words which resulted in a general agreement that prototype meaning is mostly acquired by second language lea...rners (Kellerman 1979; Shirai 1995; Kato 2005; Sumi 2015). Due to their lack of understanding of the association between word meanings, the acquisition of the extended meaning is poor. However, no studies have ever tried to consider the effect of learning environment. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the acquisition of the meanings of the Japanese verbs“ agaru” and“ miru” by Chinese learners in JSL and JFL settings. Two investigations were carried out regarding output and acceptance. To compare JSL and JFL learners, an χ 2 test was conducted. The results of the output survey confirmed the prototype theory, but also showed that the prototypical conception of “agaru” by JSL learners is different from JFL learners, which is closer to Japanese native speakers. The results of the acceptance survey also indicated that the comprehension of JSL learners is closer to that of Japanese native speakers than that of JFL learners. In addition, the misapplications of two surveys observed that “L1 transfer” shows in both JSL and JFL settings, which signified that some form of guidance is needed. This study also suggests that JSL learners might have a more effective way of learning polysemous words than JFL learners. Further research is necessary to develop better polysemy learning and teaching methods to improve the acquisition of polysemy by second language learners.続きを見る
