概要: A new genus, Illiciomyia Tokuda, is erected for Illiciomyia yukawai sp. n. that induces leaf galls on illicium anisatum (Illiciaceae) in Japan. The new genus belongs to the subtribe Asphondyliina (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae :Asphondyliini) and can be distinguished from other genera by the lack of an apical spur on the first tarsomere on all legs and the shallow construction of male flagellomeres. In the subtribe Asphondyliina, the genus is considered to have a close relation to the genera Bruggmanniella and Pseudasphondylia by having common characters such as two separate teeth of gonostylus and transverse rows of rather long spines on the anterior half of dorsal surface of pupal abdominal segment. However, the paramere-like structure of Illiciomyia is selerotized, while paramere of Bruggmanniella and Pseudasphondylia is not sclerotized. These differences indicate that Illiciomyia is phylogenetically apart from Bruggmanniella and Pseudasphondylia. 続きを見る

概要: Hartigiola faggalli (Monzen) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) comb. n. that induces bivalv-shaped galls on the leaves of Fagus crenata Linnaeus (Fafaceae) in Japan was newly transferred from the genus Oligotrophus Latreille and redescribed based on the adult, larval, and pupal stages of the species, together with biological notes. DNA analysis indicated that there were sequential differences (8-10 bp/439) in the partial COI region of mtDNA between individuals obtained from the galls induces on upper and under surfaces of the host keaves, although they were morphologically identical. The definition of Hartigiola, which was a monotypic genus, is somewhat broadened to contain H. faggalli. 続きを見る

概要: A new gall midge that is responsible for fruit galls on Distylium racemosum (Hammamelidaceae) in Japan in described as Asphondylia itoi sp. n. (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). This species is distinguishable from the other Asphondylia species and segregates by relatively small numbers of front clypeal and mesepimeral setae in adult and by morphological features of pupal head characterized by smooth antennal horns, a simple upper frontal horn, and three lobes of lower frontal horn that are arranged almost linearly. In addition to the morphological features, the DNA sequence data and biological information indicate that A. itoi is a distinct, univoltine, and monophagous species. 概要: In 2003, four species of the genus Rhopalomyia (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) were collected from Artemisia species (Asteraceae) in South Korea. To indentify these species, morphological features, gall appearance, host plant species, and DNA sequence data of each species were compared with thouse of respective Rhopalomyia species that induce similar galls on Artemisia species in Japan. Three of the four South Korean Rhopalomyia species were identical with Japanese Rhopalomyia species, respectively; they are R. struma, R. yomogicola, and Rhopalomyia sp. that induces globular axillary bud galls. In the case of Rhopalomyia sp., DNA sequence data indicated that speciation could ne initiated by geographical isolation prior to host shifting. Remaining one speciesthat was collected from terminal bud galls on Artemisia capillaris in South Korea was different from the Japanese species that induces a similar gall on A. princeps and A. montana. This South Korean gall midge will be described as a nre species elsewhere in the future. 続きを見る

概要: A total of 52 gall-inducing species of Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) (53 in the sorts of midge gall, because one poluphagous species was included) were recognized to occur in the Korean Peninsula (including surrounding islands) through literature survey, field surveys by Dr. K. Yamagishi and ourselves, and by examining photographs of arthropod galls talen by the late Prof. W. -H. Paik and one of us, JCP. The previous and current identification of these Korean gall midges relied largely upon their gall morph and host plant species that correspond to those of Japanese gall modges. The identification of these gall midges was considered to be mostly reliable, because DNA analysis suggested that some South Korean gall midges were indentical with Japanese gall midges when thwy induce the same sorts of gall on the same host plants as those in Japan. At the moment, 47 (88.7%) out of the 53 sorts of Korean midge galls were common to Japan. This means that more numerous midge galls will be detected in the Korean Oeninsula on the plant species or genera that have been known as host plants of the Japanese gall midges. 続きを見る

概要: Sixty-three sorts of gall induced by Cynipidae (Hymenoptera) were previously known to occur in Kyushu, Japan. Fifty-three sorts of them were recorded again during the course of this study, althoug ten sorts could not be found. In addition, 22 sorts were recorded, for the first time, from Kyushu. As a result, the number od sorts of cynipid gall in Kyushu stood at 85. Among them, 82 sorts were induced on eight species of Quercus (Fagaceae), one on Castanea crenata (Fagaceae), one on Rosa multiflora (Rosaceae), and one on Rubus palmatus var. coptophyllus (Rosaceae). New biological information was also obtained for some cynipid spacies or unidentified segregates. 概要: Effects of leaf gall formation by Neothoracaphis yanonis (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on the growth and reproduction of its host plant, Distylium recamosum (Hamamelidaceae), were studied in a viewpoint of sink-source relationship. Gall formation on the leaves of current-year spring shoots did not affect the production of lammas shoots in later seasons of the current year and of spring shoots in the following year. Many galled leaves abscised in late May and early June after the gall dehisced and alates left the galls, but the abscission of galled leaves appeard unrelated to the production in lammas and spring shoots. The leaf gall formation reduced significantly the production of fruit and seeds. in particular, the abscission of galled leaves affected the seed production more severely than the fruit production. 続きを見る

概要: A new species, Cofana yukawai, collected from Gunung Halimun National Park, West Java, Indosia is described together with its biological information. This species is easily destinguishabke from the other species of Cofana by the markings of head, pronotum, and forewing. The host plant of this species os a tropical clumping high-climbing vine of bamboo, Dinochloa scandens (Blume) (Poaceae). The spatial distribution pattern of C. yukawai was surveyed on a canopy walk that is about 20-25 m high above the ground. 概要: Two new species of the genus Cacopsylla are described from Japan. One of them, Cacopsylla swidae sp. n. feeding in Swida controversa (Cournaceae), is described based on adults and 5th instars. Cacopsylla swidae became clear to be indential with hte Japanese species that had been erroneously identified as a European species, Cacopsylla melanoneura. As a result, Cacopsylla melanoneura is excluded from the psyllid fauna of Japan. 概要: Phylloplatypodini was established in Platypodidae at first by Kato (1998) and synonymized with Procecini of Cossoninae by Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal (1999). Upon our detailed examination od adults and laevae, the systematic position od Phylloplatyoidini is concluded to have a sister relationship with Cossoninae on the adult characters, and provisinally raised its rank to a subfamily, Phylloplatypodinae in Curculinidae in our present knowledge. 概要: The host suitability of Phaseolus angularis and Pueraria lobata for Matsumuraeses falcana, a major soybean pest, was examined under laboratory conditions. Experimental individuals compeleted development from the 1st instat ;arva to the adult stage on these two leguminous plants. there was no significant difference between Glycine max and these two plants with respect to survival rate or larval and puapl periods of individuals of Matsumuraeses falcana. However, adults emerging from Pu. lobata were significantly smaller than those emerging from G. max or Ph. angularis. As only a few larvae were discivered in dead stems or seed pods of soybean hosts to wild legumious plants such as Pu. lobata, and may overwinter on these plants in the Kyoto region. 続きを見る
