概要: Full-grown larvae of Asteralobia doellongeriae and Asteralobia asteris were redescribed. An unidentified gall midge forming drop-shaped flower galls on Aster scaber in Japan was identified as A. doellingeriae, which had been known only from the Russian Far East but was newly recorded from Japan. Gall midgescausing flower galls on Aster ageratoides subsp. ovatus and Aster glehni var. hon-doensis in Japan were identified as Asteralobia species. 続きを見る

概要: We surveyed the species richness of galling arthropods in northeastern Australia in October 2002 and found 38 sorts of arthropod gall. The gall midge species richness on Eucalyptus spp. may support the mocroenvironment hypothesis in which the galling habit is considered to be adaptive to dry areas. In Green Island, the species richness of galling arthropods was very poor, since the island is too small and far out at sea. The galling species rechness in Daintree National Park was apparently higher than the data recorded by Price et al. (1998) in the places locating in lower latitudes, but was lower than the previous data in Iguassu and Amazon, Brazil. The present data indicates that the species richness of galling arthropods in relatively high both under humid conditions and under high plant species richness in tropical rainforests. 続きを見る

概要: Andricus moriokae (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) was originally described based on the bisexual generation alone and its agamic generation was not previously recognized. By caging bisexual generation females in a small pouch covering terminal buds of Quercus serrata (Fagaceas), we found the agamic generation galls of A. moriokae and determined the combination of the two generations. We also clarified te oviposition site by the bisexual generation females and described the shape, color, and size of agamic generation galls. 続きを見る

概要: Among 19 Japanese gall midge species on Artemisia, 3 species that were known only from galls and larvae have been left unnamed. The morphological study proved that the 2 of them belonged to the genus Rhopalomyia of the tribe Rhopalomyiini. The larvae of both species are characterized by the reduction of terminal papillae from eight to six, the absence of sternal spatula, and reduction in the number of lateral papillae. They were likely to be new species, but were not described because their adult specimens were not available. Unfortunately, remaining I species could not be studied dur to the lack of specimens. As a result, the number of Japanese Rhopalomyia species on Artemisia totaled up to 14. This number is remarkably large for the species associated with a single plant genus. 続きを見る

概要: A gall midge species forming leaf margin roll galls on Robinia pseudoacacia L. (Fabaceae) was newly found in Japan an South Korea. Based on morphological features, this gall midge was identified as obolodiplosis robiniae (Heldemann), which is native to eastern North America. There was no sequential variation among five individuals from Japan and South Korea. Since R. pseudoacacia is na alien plant, this gall midge is likely to have entered Japan and South Korea from North America. 続きを見る

概要: Species richness is one of the most important indices of biodiversity, but assessing true species rechness is no easy task. In this study, we tried to determine the best estimator among seven estimators: ACE, ICE, Chao1, Chao2, Jack1, Jack2, and Bootstrap methods. A total of 7,579 samplings in two census fields, Motooka and Ino, were performed during 2000-2002. We established eight survey sites. Sixty-one and 56 leafhopper species were collected at Motooka and Ino, respectively. Because the standard deviations of penultimate observed species richness were zero at the six sites, such observed species richness was regarded as true species rixhness. aslthough most of the estimators were not consistent with the true species richness, ICE was the most appropriate method to estimate the true species richness. Correlation between the true soecies richness of keafhoppers and gthe observed species richness of tree species or tree + grass species was highly significant. 続きを見る

Each record is composed of 16 items as follows: scientific names (family, genus and species), Japanese name, distribution data, type locality, type depository, source of the original description, synonymy, flying season, hosts, parasites, references, notes and images. The images include various parts of the body, such as the general habitus, head, antenna, mandible, scutellum, wings, stigmal vein and genitalia. A home page of the TOBIKOBACHI is presented. 概要: One of the e-Learning Systems, WebCT, was installed on a server at the Computing and Communications Center. Kyushu University in 2002. The system was utilized in the teaching of some subjects in the university and, in addition to conventional face-to-face teaching, lectures were given via the Internet. One of the initial subjects incorporated for use ith the system was the Applied Entomology course of the Faculty of Agriculture. The WebCT courseware included information relating to syllabus, lecture schedules, couse content, quizzes, reports, discussions, URL links related to applied entomology, a glossary, an image database and a questionnaire. Students could access the WebCT homepage of the subject they were enrolled in and to review their lessons and take examinations via the Internet. An outline of WebCT and its introduction to the teaching of applied entomology are presented and some noteworthy advantages of the system are discussed. 続きを見る

概要: The subgenus Taeniandrena of the genus Andrena of eastern Asia is revised, and 12 species are recorded. Three new species, Andrena (Taeniandrena) matasequoiae, A. (T.) xuanzangi and A. 概要: As a result of our morphological observations of the weevil head, 26 characters are singled out for the phylognetic analysis of the principal families in Curculionoidea, of which 15 charactersare newly employed for this purpose. These characters are examined in detail and their modes of development are apeculated for making charavter matrix. The family relationship in Curculionoidea we inferred is mostly concordant with that in the cladogram by Marvaldi & Morrone (2000), but is very different in the positions of Scolytidae and Platypodidae, and these are regarded as the independent families divaricated from an internediate branch between the primitive and advanced families. 続きを見る
