概要: Either summer or winter hosts have been known for the Japanese multivoltine gall midges of the genus Asphondylia. We renew the distribution records of these gall midges based on more recent and detailed collecting data that have been accumulated since Yukawa & Masuda (1996). Distributionalinformation of each Aphondylia gall midge is quite important to combine gall midges utilizing summer hosts with those utilizing winter hosts, because host alternation by the gall midges has been suspected. The distributional informationindicated two possible combinations between wpring-summer and autumn-winter gall midges. 続きを見る

概要: The mature larva of Pseudasphondylia rokuharensis is described, for the forst time, and the pupa is redescribed based on specimens reared from fruit galls produced on Viburnum dilatatum (Caprifoliaceae). Immature stages of P. rokuharensis were compared with those of Japanese and exotic congeners. Pseudasphondylia rokuharensis appeared to be characterized by having spiracular rudiments on tha larval metathorax, a larval sternal spatula with four pointed distal lobes, and relatively long stigmatal tubercles on the second to fourth pupal abdominal segments. These morphological features of immature stages indicated the close relation of P. rokuharensis to P. matatabi that is responsible for fruit galls on Actinidia polygama (Actinidiaceae). 続きを見る

概要: We revised and analyzed distributional information on two nominal and some unidentidied Japanese Asteralobia species that produce axillary bud galls on πex species (Aquifoliaceae). Galls on I. maximowicziana are newly recorded from the Southwest Islands. Galls on I. maximowicziana are newly recorded from the Southwest Islands. Galls produced by respective Aseralobia species were collected from most of the distribution range of their host plants, whilst those on I. integra and on I. goshiensis were not found in some localoties within the distribution range of the host plants. A wide and common dostribution range of Asteralobia sasakii on I. crenata, I. crenata var. paludosa, and I. maximowicziana suggested a high dispersal ability of the species. Distribution patterns of Asteralobia soyogo on I. chinensis, I. integra, and I. pedunculosa indicated a possible host plant preference by the gall midge. An unidentified gall modge associated with I. warburgi is widely distributed in the Southwest Islands and gall dissection data as to age structure indicated that the gall midge might be different from A. sasakii. 続きを見る

概要: By using leafhopper and butterfly as bioindicators, computer simulation was performed to determine (1) how many times we must survey in a year to clarify true species richness, (2) to what extent we can clarify the true species richness bu 3-time field surveys in a year, and (3) in whichcombination of monthswe can obtain thamaximum number of species. I found that about 90% of the true species richness of leafhopper and butterfly could be clarified by 3-time field surveys. To assess the true species richness, we have to survey at least 5.4 times for leafhopper and 5.5 times for butterfly. In an optimal schedule, surveys for leafhopper should be performed in May, June, July, August, September, and December, of which the last one is the key month. For butterfly, we should wurvey in April, May, jJune, July (key month), August, and September. 続きを見る

概要: A database file, ELKUTType, based on the type collection preserved in the Entomologycal laboratory, Kyushu Universitym Fukuokam Japan wase constructed as one of the files in the KONCHU database and is available to the public vai the Internet. Each recorf is composed of 19 items, and consists of scientific name, Japanese name, current species name, order, family, author, year, source of the original description including bibliographic data, type designation with sex, type locality, country, preservation from, existence of paratypes and an image of the type specimen. A home page of the ELKUType database is presented. It is administered by a SIGMA management system. 概要: Chionaspis miyakoensis Kuwana 1931 was synonymized with Pseudaulacaspis cockerelli (Cooley, 1897) in Takagi. However, our morphological study of their second instar males revealed that they are clearly distinguishable from each other in the males, in spite of their resemblance in the adult females. 概要: Two new genera of the subfamily Conoderinae (Zygopinae auctt) are established from the Oriental and Austral Regions under the names of Brimoides gen. nov. and Abrimoides gen. nov. Brimoides includes B. morimotoi sp. nov. B. ceylonensis sp. nov, and B. exilis (Pascoe). comb. nov. from Lobotrachelus, with some unnamed species. Abrimoides is erected for Metetra esakii Morimoto. These genera are tentavely assigned in the tribe Othippiini Morimoto, although the monophyly of this tribe is now under investigation.
