概要 This Paper examines life styles, sense and social relationships of the youth who goes to private engineering college at Tamil Nadu in India, focusing on their career choices. First of all, I had expla...ined the situation of higher education in India from the viewpoint of privatization in higher education. In addition to that, I tried to make clear the life styles and senses of the students. It is important to understand the meaning of experiences of receiving higher education from their point of view. Main purpose of this thesis is to analyzing the social relationships of youth focusing on their career choices. In this paper, choices and decision making process of students are not seen as totally individual matter. It always proceeds with support and advices of people who has connection to these youth people. There are three concrete points to be analyzed here. 1) How did the students decide to do engineering course, 2) How did the students decide college to go, 3) How do they feel and decide what to do after their graduation. At first point, most of the students think that it was his decision to do engineering, and few of them think that their parents force them to do so. Their parents and they themselves think that engineering and medical courses are the ones which guarantee for students to getting job. Because of this situation, course choices were not based on each student interest, but based on their scores of examination. If the student could get certain marks, it means that the student are deserves to go for engineering courses. Student doesn't have big difficulty to choose their courses. At second point, choice of college is mostly based on the information of media like newspaper and internet for both of students and their parents. Because of rapid increase of private institutions for engineering course, it seems to be difficult to get ideas through their social relationship. Compared to choices of courses, decision of college was depended on students themselves. At last point, when it becomes to job matters, many of students feel gaps with their parents. Their parents have expectations for their child who graduates from engineering course to getting sort of job. But students feel difficulties to getting job because of recession and value of their college. Some of parents tell their child to manage career matter by themselves because of lack of their knowledge. Students are not counting on their parents for career matters. Nevertheless, students keep very frequent contact with their parents and think them as person to talk over.続きを見る
