1) In order to determine the different effects of irradiation with several wave-lengths upon the development of the gonad, chickens were kept under the different conditions, namely red-lighted. ( long-wave ) room, violet-lighted (short-wave) room and dark room respectively. 2) The experiments show that red light is the most effective on sexual maturation and activating radiation is confined to a range of long wave-lengths. Although violet light is not effective but in no case found an inhibitory effect upon the development of the gonad. 3 ) There can be no doubt that light is an important factor in sexual activity, but for the reason of the fact that chickens kept in dark room also came into sexual maturity, it is not an indispensable one.
