| 概要 | An anthology edited by a naval historian (maritime history, University of Hull, UK) and based on an English maritime history conference, this book is a miscellany of essays about different aspects of ...aval history in England between 1200 and 1500. Most of the pieces deal with technical concerns: ship construction, trade economics, and war profits and losses. In the editor's definition, "...the role of the sea can be equated to the uses to which it was put..." The collection is Victorian in its style and interests: "...in the present collection two functions predominate the exchange of goods and the pursuit of war." Its essays were written to appeal to non-specialist audiences; to an American reader they are free of unnecessary jargon but often suffer from academic prose.
