Abstract: Aiming at developing chemical teaching materials for“Education for Sustainable Development(ESD)"at university, fundamental research works of seeking the possible materials were carried out. On the basis of the fundamental research, several teaching materials were developed, followed by the evaluations of this practical usefulness through trails at universities. Several model programs consist of the learning modules of presently developed teaching materials. Through educational practice in the workshop style at Kyushu University, the practical usefulness of the present chemistry model program for non-science majors was evaluated. By reviewing the details of the chemistry program and the results of educational practice, the roles of the respective learning activities in the class and laboratory for the knowledge acquisition, concept formation, and trainings of scientific skills and thinking are discussed for the further improvement of our chemistry program. Abstract: Our study aims to solve problems involved with slash reading materials in regards to extensive reading and construct a practical leaning system. The study can be summarized as follows: 1. We did research on slash reading materials considering the need of extensive reading, especially on the relationship between them. We experimented on how Japanese English learners read English materials, and estimated and analyzed the process of their reading. 2. We developed a technique to collect English materials from the Web. That is, (1) a rapid way to recognize a fine distinction between English words, (2) a way to discern whether English materials are written by native speakers of English or not and (3) a way to estimate readability. 3. We developed the technique with great flexibility mentioned above to automatically put slashes into English sentences. 4. This technique can be found at http://www.cl.ritsumei.ac.jp/CALL/SR/ 5. We made our English materials with slashes using different levels of English sentences (256 passages), and put it on the web. The materials are at http://www.cl.ritsumei.ac.jp/CALL/SR/materials/Kitao/ 6. We did research on the words influencing the level of difficulty and proposed a framework estimating their learning time and difficulty. We are still researching the success of this framework. Abstract: Focusing on academic libraries, this paper discusses the changing role of the librarian based on the "Summary of discussion" by the Science Information Infrastructure Working Group (2010) and the Scientific Information Committee (2013) in the Council for Science and Technology. After reviewing the current status of universities and academic libraries, we describe the new roles and the expectations required of academic librarians, considering the changes which may occur in the library of the future. It also discusses how to build the mechanisms for human resource development and securing of librarians, while introducing activities of "Innovation Center for Educational Resource" and "Department of Library Science" at Kyushu University. Abstract: The fiscal year 1999 was the last year of this three year project. Therefore we, the research group, have focused our efforts on summarizing the results of the research and in preparing further projects. Particularly worthy of mention was the workshop which was organized in June 1999. The center piece of the workshop was a series of model lectures. That is to say, the methods of teaching developed by each member of the research group were presented not as abstract theories, but by teaching in a classroom to a group of international students. After these model lectures, we discussed how best to incoroprate - and where necessary modify - these methods. Perhaps this was the first time a workshop this kind has been held in Japan. After the workshop each participant was invited to reflect on his or her own teaching techniques and to write up a report which when collected together could provide a manual for teaching which can be shared with others. To correct the English and to unify the style Prof. Bowring at Cambridge University and Prof. Pinnington of the University of Arizona have kindly undertaken the task of editing. We will endeavor to publish the results of the research as a book., both in Japan and the United States. We hope that we can further develop the findings to provide a basis for mutual education between Japanese students and international students, thus going some way to achieving truly international education. Abstract: 本稿では、QUBE プロジェクトで実施した、システムLSI 設計教育についての海外の 先端事例調査結果を報告する。調査の目的は、QUBE の活動方針、カリキュラム策定、 教材開発手法などを広い視野で方向付けていくことである。調査対象は、フランス、ドイ ツ、ベルギーの欧州3 カ国と台湾、韓国の東アジア2 カ国の大学・研究機関、および米国 の組込みシステム教育関連の国際会議とした。本調査では、国の戦略的支援でシステム LSI 設計教育が有効に働いているという海外の状況を、現場で確認することができた。さ らに、国の支援の有効活用と日本国内の教育者間の連携、そして海外との継続的な交流の 重要性を体感できたことは、極めて有意義な成果であっった。 Read more

Abstract: 1 西日本独文学会教育部会研究発表会、広島大学外国語教育研究センター主催のシンポジウム「マルチメディア時代の外国語教育を考える」などコンピュ一タ-やインターネットを利用した外国語教育をテ一マにした研究会に参加し、他大学の研究者と広く意見交換と討議を行なった。 2 オランダのアムステルダム大学で開催された「第11回国際ドイツ語教育学会」に出席し、マルチメディアの分科会で各国の研究者と意見交換を行なった。 3 咋年度に引き続き、各種のオーサリングソフトウエアを用いてドイツ語のマルチメディア・プレゼンテーションのための教材を作成し、ドイツ語の授業でこの教材を試用しながら、効果の検証と問題点の検討を行なった。 4 CALL教室におけるマルチメディア教材を使った授業の可能性と問題点についての研究成果を論文にまとめ、「言語科学」第33号に発表した。 5 普通教室でのコンピュータ一の利用法に関する研究成果を日本独文学会秋季研究発表会におけるシンポジウム「発信のためのドイツ語授業の試み」(沖縄国際大学)で発表した。この発表内容は現在論文にまとめており、「独仏文学研究第48号」にて発表の予定である。 6 作成した教材をフリーウェアとして関心を持つ研究者にWebペ一ジで公開・配布するためのホームベ-ジを作成中である。 Read more
