| Abstract |
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the receivers'. impressions of self-deprecaters and the receivers' recognizing intention of them. 143 undergraduates answer...ed the questionnaires about self-deprecating on the praise situation. In order to change the degree of intention, two factors were manipulated ; praise contents and closeness between presenters and receivers: The results showed that, receivers recognized more intention of self-deprecaters when the compliment was objective than when that was subjective. Furthermore, when receivers recognized the intention of the self-deprecaters too much, the impressions were lower. Closeness, however, didn' t have significant influence on intention and impression. Probabilities of the influence by other factors were discussed because the correlation between intention and impression was low.show more
