Abstract Two cases of Kyushu University students with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome are presented, since these two cases are didactic with respect to the health management and promotion of such kind of ...students. One student suffered frequent paroxysms of tachyarrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia, whereas the other student was apparently healthy without any symptoms or signs. The former student underwent radio frequency catheter ablation applied to eliminate the accessory pathway conduction. Prior to the radiofrequency current application, electrophysiological testing demonstrated that this case showed high-risk property with short effective refractoriness (238 msec) of the right midseptal accessory pathway. Ablative therapy was successful and the patient was free from tachyarrhythmias without any antiarrhythmic drugs administration. The latter student was supported and educated by the regular follow-up at the infirmary, which made this student a little bit sensitive to the possible tachyarrhythmias relating to WPW syndrome. WPW syndrome shows wide range of clinical features and its health management and promotion depend on the individual patient's clinical profile.show more
