Abstract I consider the problem how the Tokugawa shogunate thought about the sovereignty in the middle of the 18th century by analyzing the admiration sentences and poetries which the Confucianism persons of t...he Tokugawa shogunate wrote to celebrate the appointment of general Tokugawa family. As a result of the analysis, the shogunate Confucianism scholars had the following different opinions. 1, The emperor is considered to be only "King". 2, "King" is admitted to the present master in general Tokugawa family a little though the emperor is assumed to be "King". 3, "King" of "Son of Heaven (天子)" corresponding is admitted to present master in general Tokugawa family assuming emperor to be "King". 4, The emperor is high-ranking "King" and the present master in general Tokugawa family is "King" of the subordinate position. 5, The emperor is not true "King" because the position as emperor's "King" continued by the consideration of the present master in general Tokugawa family, and the present master in general Tokugawa family is true the true "King". These suggest the following fact that both the Royal prerogative system which assumes emperor to be "King" and the Royal prerogative system which assumes present master in general Tokugawa family to be "King" exist with the Bakuhannsei-Kokka (幕藩制国家).show more
