Abstract This paper analyses the effects of the university employment guidance system on the opportunities for new graduates in the labor market, The data were taken from a complete survey conducted on employm...ent guidance and equivalent organizations in all universities. Our analysis focused on the comparison between national and private universities. The empirical findings may be summarized as follows: 1) There are many ways university students find a job after graduation. More than half of the students in humanities and liberal arts find a job through free application. On the other hand, more than half of students of science and technology go through the school's laboratory or individual faculty members. Furthermore there is the third channel for private university students, is school placement division. 2) The guidance system differs between national and private universities. Only private universities have the school placement division and good employment guidance activities. 3) The opportunity for graduates to get a job in a large company does not differ now between national and private universities. Private universities have caught up with national universities, partly, through the placement division, and are ahead of national universities with respect to employment guidance activities.show more
