Abstract | Do Chinese equity acquisitions, loans, and long-term procurement contracts help consolidate a tightly concentrated supply base by securing preferential access for Chinese buyers, asks Moran (foreign s...rvice, Georgetown U.), or do they help multiply sources and diversity the supply base, making the provision of output more competitive for all buyers. He draws evidence from the 16 largest Chinese natural resource procurement arrangements to conclude that Chinese efforts help expand and diversify the global supplier system. There are plenty of other sticks to beat China with, he assures readers, among them human rights violations and support of terrorism.
